Remember this post? In it I talked about how planting sumac was one of the biggest mistakes we have made in our garden.
This weekend (my) Mr. Wonderful took us one step further in correcting the problem.
Sumac Stump

Yes, the stump is GONE! (Along with most of its network of roots.)
So, while I had the camera out to record this triumph, I managed to capture a few other shots in and around the garden.

Tumbling Clematis in Full Bloom

C. jouiniana 'Mrs. Robert Brydon' is not a climber, and must be tied to the arbour. Some people use it as a groundcover. I guess maybe I will too from now on. The bees are all over this late-blooming clematis because so little else is blooming right now. I can't even get in there and tidy it up. Not without disturbing the bees anyway (and I definitely don't want to do that.)

hope you did the happy dance with that stump!
I had not realized how close your backyard neighbors were until this post.
There may not be much blooming but your gardens still look marvelous!
We've noticed an increase in bird activity lately, especially the gold finches. I was out there taking pictures of them just yesterday. A little fellow was chatting with me...so sweet :)
Our woodpeckers are back too. I enjoy them so much.
Your clematic is gorgeous! And your garden still looks lovely with all the contrasting greens and textures. So well put together!
Hallelujah..the stump is gone! Bet that makes you feel good :)
Alison, in photos taken at certain angles the foreshortening makes it look like our neighbours are right on top of us. They are close, no doubt about it, but not quite as bad as these photos make it seem.
BSTS and Kerri, I am certainly happy enough to do a little dance around that stump now that it's out of the ground. Yay for Mr. Wonderful! He did such a great job!
Nice blogg and photos! I've marked it in my favorites to check back often.
Just new at blogging myself and can learn from you and others.
Thanks for sharing!
What a thrill to get that stump out! I remember DH digging MANY of those out during the time we were making the rockwall garden. It is hard work. Your Mr. Wonderful did good.
Your mrs robert brydon looks wonderful with all your other plants. Do you really have these kind of birds! (goldfinches) They are so bright yellow that they look like they belong to a jungle. Dont be sad if youre not having blooming flowers. Your garden looks like it blooms all the time.
The male goldfinches are a lovely bright cheerful yellow. Soon they will turn a drab colour for the winter.
I will work on planting more late summer blooms in the garden. I would like to make a new bed under the gingko tree, but first I need to pull out all the periwinkle. (It's a BIG job.)
