More, More, More

This is the last day of June. An unprecedented number of daylilies are blooming at this time this year. In previous years, many of these flowers would not be blooming until mid-July. I can only assume that it has something to do with our warm April weather, or perhaps the fact that we've had three years with plenty of rain, rather than extended drought conditions. Anyway, whatever the cause, as I've said before, the daylilies are early this year. Look at the fiesta of colour in the front garden.

There were plenty more first blooms today. Some of these photos were taken in the morning as the flowers were just opening, and some later in the evening when the flowers were fully open.

Likewise, Cimarron Knight was waiting for later in the day to open itself fully to the world. Then again, this is the first year that Cimarron Knight did not wait until a rainy day to open its primary bloom.

Well, it decided on two flowers for its first day. Same with Destined to See. Now, Destined to See doesn't have the best track record for beautiful first blooms, as you can see from 2008's effort:

I usually have no problem with Wayside King Royale, and this year's first bloom is no exception.

But if you want to talk problems, here is a disappointment. This flower is called "True Blue Heart" because it is supposed to have cream-coloured petals with a soft lavender eye. And it did, when I first bought it. Now, in my garden, it should be renamed "Apricot Raspberry Parfait" (a nice enough daylily, just not what I bought).
